Romans at the site

The roman British spent several centuries established in the area building Villas and estates. Being occupied by agriculture and other industries. The romans built many villas across the country. Here is North Warnborough was no different. There are roman sites in Mapledurwell, Newnham, Borough Court, Hook, Scotland farm, Lodge farm, Odiham Castle, Hillside farm Odiham, Greywell and Basing.  A roman kiln near Scotland farm, less than a mile from Lodge farm was discovered in 1970. The kiln now lies under the M3. One of the finds was a bronze coin dated around 330AD.  There is ample evidence to show there was a good presence of Romana British settlements in the area for hundreds of years

The 2 ranges of a Roman villa at Lodge farm were discovered in the orchard during excavations in 1929 – 1930. Lodge farm was not on a direct line of any known roman highway. Two ranges of villa were discovered in the orchard. The larger building was similar to a winged corridor type building. Like now the buildings showed two or three periods of rebuilding. The site is thought to be a small villa and was of a considerable size.
